Alcohol & Other Drugs in the Workplace: "How to deal with an Intoxicated Worker"

This is the second in the series of Alcohol & Other Drugs in the Workplace Workshops that deals specifically with issues surrounding how to manage an intoxicated worker. This 2.5 hour workshop has been developed for Managers, Supervisors and Team Leaders who are seeking information and practical learning examples on how to identify, assess and manage potential safety implications of an intoxicated worker in the workplace.

Workshops will be regularly run at our Merrylands Training Centre. On-site training can be accommodated.

Introduction to Return-to-Work Coordination

(2 days) - $440 per person (GST inclusive)
Completion of this training is a legal requirement for Return-to-Work Coordinators who are employed by (or contracted to) Category 1 employers (basic tariff premium greater than $50,000).

This two-day WorkCover accredited course is also suited to Managers and Supervisors who have responsibilities for providing suitable duties and monitoring injured worker's return-to-work programs and occupational rehabilitation at the work site. This covers many aspects of occupational rehabilitation.

Advanced Return-to-Work Coordination

(1 day) - $330 per person (GST inclusive)
This one-day WorkCover accredited course has been developed for experienced return to work coordinators, with a focus on strategic case management and management of complex cases. The course is suitable for Return-to-Work Coordinators who have at least six months experience, and who have completed the Introduction to Return-to-Work Coordination course.

This will further enhance your occupational rehabilitation skills.

Injury Management Training for Supervisors

$85 per person (GST inclusive)
The first 48 hours after an injury are critical. Frontline individuals in any organisation have a very important role to play in the return to work process. For this reason we have developed a two-hour training package specifically for supervisors to help them handle injured workers in a positive way. This will reduce the need for more comprehensive occupational rehabilitation services. Training is open to managers, supervisors, leading-hands and team-leaders. We conduct the Injury Management Training for Supervisors regularly at our Merrylands training rooms or at your workplace by arrangement.

Onsite Manual Handling Awareness Training

This 2-hour package aims to:

  • Increase awareness of OHS responsibilities of both employers & employees at the workplace in regard to manual handling risks.
  • Facilitate understanding of risk management at the workplace (Identifying, Assessing and Controlling workplace risks).
  • Identify and describe the main manual handling risks specific to participants work tasks.
  • Assess the specific risk factors in the job performed by the participants.
  • Describe and demonstrate the various methods for developing controls for the manual handling risks identified.
  • Describe and demonstrate the safest manual handling solutions that are relevant to the participant's job, highlighting the main benefits to participants of using these handling methods.

Training packages are tailored to the worksite using job specific examples and photographs. A summary report is also provided to management at the conclusion of training, outlining any specific manual handling concerns identified and suggested controls brainstormed during the course of the session.

Onsite Ergonomics & Workstation Set-up Training

Training is provided in 2 forms:-

Individual workstation assessments

    Individual workstations are assessed in consultation with the worker, with a view to providing recommendations on how to maximise posture and minimise potential for musculo-skeletal pain/injury.

Group education and follow-up workstation reviews

    An education package is presented to participants in regards to 'best practice' ergonomics and workstation set-up, aimed at minimising the risk of injury and aid in occupational rehabilitation. At the completion of these sessions, participants are invited to have their workstation reviewed by ergonomics trainers to assess any individual needs.

Ergonomics training packages are tailored to the worksite using job specific examples and photographs. A summary report is also provided to management at the conclusion of training, outlining any specific ergonomic concerns identified and suggested controls brainstormed during the course of the session.

Yellow Flag (psychosocial factors) assessment and intervention

We run training in all aspects of dealing with psychosocial factors (yellow flags)in compensation and occupational rehabilitation cases. We explain how to administer and score tools such as the Orebro questionnaire (OMPQ). We provide guidance in dealing with all types of yellow flags and can customise the training to match the work situation and culture.

Why Choose QOH?

Our RTW Coordinator Training (Introductory and Advanced) is facilitated by an approved WorkCover Trainer with extensive experience in occupational rehabilitation. Session numbers are limited to ten participants to maximise interaction and discussion and to ensure each component of training is thoroughly addressed. We are conveniently located in Merrylands, easily accessed by car or train.

Our trainers are all tertiary-qualified OHS consultants with either a physiotherapy or occupational therapy background. We have extensive industry knowledge and experience and are able to tailor training services to suit specific workplace requirements. We are supported by a team of occupational physicians and rehabilitation consultants.

Our trainers focus on experiential learning and participant interaction thereby maximizing the experience for the trainee.

Certificates are issued to all participants for all training sessions at no additional cost.
