QOH Quit Smoking Information
QOH Quit Smoking Information for the workplace
At QOH we run quit smoking programs designed for workplaces. As an evidence based practice we have researched the best evidence for such programs. The Cochrane Collaboration has comprehensive reviews on quit smoking techniques and these describe the findings of the best quit smoking research to date. The most recent of these quit smoking reviews have been published here:
Cochrane review - quit smoking programs in the workplace
For workplace quit smoking interventions we know that there is strong evidence that programs directed at individual smokers increase the likelihood of quitting.
These include quit smoking advice from a doctor; individual and group counselling and medication to overcome nicotine addiction. Self-help quit smoking interventions are not as effective and are of limited value.
There is some evidence that participation in quit smoking programs may be increased by competitions and incentives organised by the employer.
There is some evidence that workplace tobacco policies and bans can reduce smoking at work and exposure of non-smoking employees to tobacco smoke at work.
We are not yet sure of the cost-effectiveness of the quit smoking programmes so we aim to keep to cost to a minimum.
We screen workers to determine the level of their addiction. This helps to determine what medications are most likely to work for each individual.
