Homoeopathy benefits are placebo effects

Homoeopathy benefits are placebo effects

A new meta-analysis published in the Lancet on August 27 has concluded that homoeopathy benefits are placebo effects. Link - summary available by registering (free).

Homoeopathy is based on the idea that “like should be cured with like”. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) a German physician first described homoeopathy. More information is available at:

This new work was done at the University of Berne in Switzerland. They looked at 110 randomised trials.

They found that when looking at high quality large trials there was no convincing evidence that homoeopathy was better than a placebo. They found that conventional medicine did have an important effect.

These findings should be considered in requests for payment for homoeopathy particularly under a compensable scheme.
